Five people have been arrested as part of a corruption investigation in the municipality of Caserta

On Thursday, five people who worked for or with the municipality of Caserta were arrested and placed under house arrest as part of an investigation into corruption and forgery of public documents by the Santa Maria Capua Vetere public prosecutor’s office: they are the councilor for public works Massimiliano March, two managers of the technical offices, a public official and an entrepreneur from the construction sector. The investigation includes a total of 14 suspects but at the moment the arrests have only concerned these five people: these details were given by the prosecutor Pierpaolo Bruni and the provincial commander of the Carabinieri Manuel Scarso during a press conference.

According to what was claimed by the prosecutor’s office, several tasks relating to various areas of public works, from the management of green spaces to school facilities, were entrusted “illegitimately” in exchange for favors of various types. Among those received by public officials in exchange for the assignment of these tasks there would also have been small things, such as plumbing work in one of their homes and the payment of car insurance. In one case it would have been proven the purchase of building supplies for public works in a company 50 percent owned by councilor Marzo.
