Marsala – Francesco Di Girolamo turned 100. Celebrated by family and friends, grandfather Francesco – known as Uncle Ciccio – also received the best wishes from the City of Marsala, with the institutional commemorative plaque presented by the mayor and the president of the city council.
Francesco Di Girolamo, after primary school, attended start-up school as a ship engineer and, in the 1940s, served in the Navy on board the historic “Vittorio Veneto”.
Later, in the 1960s, in Santa Margherita Ligure he worked on board the boats of the De Angeli pharmaceutical company. Having inherited the profession of fisherman, there are many anecdotes related to the sea, to be passed down and that he loves to tell.
From his marriage to Margherita Lo Grasso – a seamstress, who died 16 years ago – Marisa, Franca and Giuseppe were born who, together with 4 grandchildren, surround him with affection. Still active and independent, his favorite hobby is making rattan pots and dried palm leaf baskets.
At the table, desserts and “wine and soda” are his favourites; but grandfather Francesco’s greatest passion is cycling, during which he continues to enjoy the sea.
