CASERTA – Fraud, forgery and corruption, these are the accusations of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere against 4 suspects, employees of the Municipality of Caserta, including a manager, and the Councilor for Public Works Massimiliano Marzo who was also placed under house arrest. Under the spotlight are some public works contracts awarded in the capital and which, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, were piloted with the connivance of the municipal offices and the councillor. The investigation began two years ago. The Carabinieri acquired documents, public documents, telephone and environmental interceptions.
We remind you that councilor Marzo was elected in 2021 on a civic list in support of mayor Carlo Marino, establishing himself as the first elected with 860 personal preferences.
In light of the political-judicial earthquake of these hours, Mayor Carlo Marino did not wait for the end of the press conference underway in Santa Maria Capua Vetere and immediately released a statement
“We have full confidence in the work of the judiciary and the police. At the same time we hope that the people involved in the investigation, which concerns individual episodes, can clarify their position as soon as possible.” we read in the note. “The work of the Administration – added the mayor Marino – continues regularly, we guarantee full administrative continuity. The delegations of the Managers involved will be temporarily attributed to the other managers in service and to the General Secretary. I would like to remind you that the episodes referred to in the charges concern events that occurred before July 2023, the month in which I issued the new decrees assigning delegations to managers, applying the anti-corruption law”.
Finally, Mayor Marino assumed on an interim basis the mandates of Councilor Massimiliano Marzo, namely those for Public Works, Municipal Police, Traffic and Roads, Civil Protection, the Plan for the Elimination of Architectural Barriers and Relations with the fractions.
