On Monday 8 July, the redevelopment works of the Ortomercato car park (entrance from Viale Zappi) will begin, which specifically include the re-doing of the waterproofing and flooring of the first floor of the structure.
The works will involve the entire first floor; the access ramp to the first floor; a small area of the ground floor in the immediate vicinity of the start of the access ramp to the first floor and some areas of the basement damaged due to infiltrations.
The project involves the removal of the current flooring, sub-floors and waterproofing system and the resurfacing with concrete flooring (except for the small portion of the ground floor where, for homogeneity with the rest of the floor, the concrete paving will be re-proposed). The ramp will be appropriately roughened to avoid slipping in case of frost.
The intervention has a total cost of 710 thousand euros, financed by Con.Ami and Area Blu.
The works will be organised in phases, depending on the area – The works will be organized by zone, so as to allow, as far as possible, partial use of the car park. The subdivision of the areas affected by the works and the related timing are as follows:
- PHASE 1: from 8 July to the end of August 2024 the works will affect the eastern area of the first floor. The car parks on the first floor portion closest to the arrival of the ramp will therefore be usable. We remind you that there are a total of 113 places on the first floor: during the first phase of the works 68 will be closed.
- LEVEL 2: from early September to mid-November 2024 the works will involve the remaining portion of the first floor, the access ramp to the first floor and the portion of the ground floor adjacent to the entrance of the ramp. During this period the entire first floor will be inaccessible and also the small part of the ground floor affected by the works. We would like to remind you that there are a total of 98 seats on the ground floor: during the second phase of the works, 5 will be closed.
- PHASE 3: from mid-November to the first week of December: the works will involve the restoration to be carried out in the basement (here there are only private garages). In this phase the entire car park will be usable again.
The objective is to complete the works before the Christmas period, thus limiting the inconvenience that failure to use the area may cause for citizens and commercial activities.
The “Ortomercato” car park is one of the most used and as is gradually happening, we are redeveloping all those that need maintenance – explains the councillor for public works and the historic centre, Pierangelo Raffini -. The structure had been showing disconnections and leaks in the upper part for some time; now thanks to the contribution of Con.Ami and Area Blu the optimal conditions will be restored, with an intervention that is also important in economic terms. The works will be carried out gradually, in phases, to cause as little inconvenience as possible to users, but they were truly essential and could not be postponed. The goal we have set ourselves is for it to be fully usable for the Christmas holidays. I remember that there is also the “Cavina” car park nearby, which always has parking spaces available, even on market days”.
