COSENZA What Iacucci doesn’t say. The leader of the Democratic Party in the Regional Council rushed to Corigliano Rossano to celebrate the re-election of Flavio Stasi but it glosses over the flop of the PD list, set up by the duo themselves Iacucci-Bevacqua and with the brother of the first, Nello Iacucciamong the candidates.
To simplify: without the Democratic Party (whose approximately 3,300 votes in the European elections are halved in the 1,464 in the municipal elections) Stasi would have won anyway. 3.7% of Democrats – who were not present at the 2019 administrative elections – plastically describes a slow decline: four percentage points less than in 2016. In absolute terms, the PD list is last among the 8 that supported Stasi and third to last if we consider those in support of Straface (only Civico e Popolare and Lega Salvini Premier do worse with 2.9% and 2.3%).
The same message that Franco Iacucci immediately entrusted to social media is missing the reference to the regional and provincial level, for obvious reasons: «After the extraordinary result of the #democratic party at a national level, we also celebrate the victory in Corigliano Rossano with Flavio Stasi». It’s better not to talk about the local Democratic Party.

The marginalization of the Democratic Party between Montalto and Co-Ro

Calabrian democrats rarely talk about the broad field and yet perhaps they shouldsince the 5 Star Movement establishes itself as the first party in the province of Cosenza (as well as Crotone) and it is not a small signal for two reasons: it goes against the trend compared to the primacy of the dem in the South and above all it affects the province which expresses the two regional councilors on the front line in the Stasi-Straface challenge.
It is no coincidence that Davide Tavernise “puts his hat” on Stasi’s re-election: «The electoral result that the 5 Star Movement obtained in the Cosenza Ionian Sea demonstrates the concreteness of our actions and the maturity of our political project – comments the regional councilor and M5S group leader -. The last round gives us a councilor in Corigliano-Rossano, Lidia Sciarrottain support of the mayor Flavio Stasi”. A minimal yet important result.
A councillor, like the Democratic Party (thanks to the 457 votes brought by Giuseppe Candreva: 140 less than the AVS candidate, Giovanni Leonetti), while for its strong civic characterization (and “left-wing” as the mayor likes to repeat) Stasi totals 12 among those elected on the civic lists: 3 councilors each for Città Libera (where the city record of the “outgoing” dem Rosellina Madeo1,031 preferences, could represent a problem for the party) and Uniti for Stasi, 2 for Azzurro Mare, Corigliano Rossano Futura and Corigliano Rossano Pulita.
Pd not received or almost not, as in Montalto Uffugo: there wasn’t even the symbol there.
