5 Stars and Civitavecchia Popolare: “We cannot leave the city in the hands of Grasso and those who for 5 years have shown that they are not up to par”

72 hours after the results were made official and just over a week before the new run-off elections, the picture of the real forces in the field, especially the possible similarities, is beginning to emerge. And in this regard, the news of the day is represented by the officialization by the supporters of the mayoral candidate Vincenzo D’Antò, i.e. the Five Star Movement and Civitavecchia Popolare, of their intention to form an alliance with the left-wing mayoral candidate, Marco Piendibene.

In a long document, they argue that the time for commitment has come, especially because Civitavecchia is going through a difficult historical moment and, more than ever, would it have needed a strong and cohesive administration like the one they had presented to the voters. “Thousands of people – add 5 Stars and Civitavecchia Popolare – have placed their trust in this project, but unfortunately not enough to allow us to take the helm of the city and those who supported us did so because they believe in us, in our ideas and in our determination.” They then go on to argue that out of respect for these citizens, 5 Star and Civitavecchia Popolare cannot accept that the city be handed over for another five years to those who have demonstrated that they are not up to the task, that they put personal interests above those of the community , to have no hesitation in exploiting the difficulties of families and the precariousness of workers to obtain a few more votes. “We cannot leave the city – they insist – in the hands of people like Grasso, who has always shown, just remember the ecoballe or biodigester affair, and even more so in the electoral campaign, that he is unable to think about the common good, always putting it before partisan interests and losing pieces in record time and in this critical moment, we believe it is our duty to make a further effort, putting aside what divides to look at what we have in common”. 5 Stars and Civitavecchia Popolare therefore announce that, in this phase of the ballot, they believe they must work to iron out the differences that divide them from the center left to create a common front against this right which risks doing irreversible damage to our territory. They therefore announce that they will make themselves available, with the compact coalition, to a formal agreement based on points that can guide us in giving a perspective to Civitavecchia, in resolving the urgent critical issues that the city is experiencing and allow us to put in place training capable of gathering the consensus needed to win the ballot. “We will not be able – they conclude – to protest or demonstrate against injustices in the future, knowing that we had the opportunity to avoid them and that we did not at least try. This would be truly inconsistent. Only in this way can we make a difference and build a better future for Civitavecchia right away. In five years it will be too late.”
