Rotary and Asp Agrigento Donate Library to Improve Patient Wellbeing

An initiative to humanize assistance in the general medical department of the “San Giovanni di Dio” hospital in Agrigento, thanks to the donation of a library full of volumes from the local Rotary Clubs.

In a gesture of great humanity and solidarity, the Rotary Clubs of Agrigento and Aragon have joined forces with the Provincial Health Authority (ASP) to enrich the environment of the general medicine department of the “San Giovanni di Dio” hospital in Agrigento .

Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 11 June, a library containing around a hundred volumes was donated, selected to offer comfort and continuity with daily life to patients and their families.

The donation ceremony took place in the presence of numerous personalities, including Giuseppe La Mendola and Celestino Saia, presidents of the respective Rotary Clubs, and the extraordinary commissioner of the ASP of Agrigento, Giuseppe Capodieci.

The head of the general medicine operational unit, Giuseppa Mira, underlined the importance of reading as a form of self-care, offering patients not only a distraction but also a source of motivation and psychophysical well-being.

“Reading is a way to take care of yourself,” said Dr. Mira, “and the presence of books in the ward can offer a lot to our patients: comfort, motivation, well-being and a sense of continuity with normal everyday life.”

The project not only aims to improve the quality of patient stay, but also represents an excellent example of how the partnership between public bodies and associations can produce significant results for the community.

The ASP medical director, Emanuele Cassarà, and the medical director of the unit, Onofrio Cacciatore, both expressed their appreciation for the commitment and professionalism of the department staff, underlining the added value of humanization in healthcare.

This initiative demonstrates the power of volunteering and associations in concretely contributing to people’s well-being, emphasizing the importance of healing environments that go beyond mere medical assistance.
