The Savona Solidarity Purchasing Group proposes the conference “Future prospects: from food to energy”

The Savona Solidarity Purchasing Group (GasSa) is a critical consumer association founded in 2006 starting from agri-food and household cleaning purchases, and then opening up to other product sectors.
From the beginning, GasSa opened up to the Savona community, bringing voices and experiences that spoke of the economy, but also of solidarity and the environment.

The association has organized meetings, debates, film reviews, activities in schools, also in collaboration with various local associations.

Friday 14 June 2024 GasSa proposes the conference “FUTURE PROSPECTS: FROM FOOD TO ENERGY” with the participation of Duccio Facchini, editor in chief of the magazine Altreconomia, author of the book: “The sovereigns of food”, and Giovanni Ludovico Montagnani, engineer climate activist, author of the book: “After the accident”.
The appointment is at 9pm in the “Stella Maris” room at the Port, in Piazza Rebagliati 2B.

Duccio Facchini publishes an investigation into food speculation and the battles for food transparency, analyzing who decides what we eat and at what price.
Since the mid-1970s, global food production has grown by 300%, yet even today malnutrition continues to reduce the life expectancy of millions of people: in 2023 783 million people (9% of the world’s population ) suffered from chronic hunger, and more than 333 million experienced acute levels of food insecurity. A handful of agri-food multinationals, controlled by a very few very rich hedge funds, have recorded record profits in recent years, enjoying subsidies that have been to the detriment of people’s health and the environment.
How was this “food bag” possible and what are the tools available to “active” consumers to create a fair way, overcoming the current model for which 3/4 of the food consumed worldwide comes from 12 plant species and from 5 animals? How can the quantity and quality of consumption be rebalanced? How can sovereignty be returned to farmers and consumers?

The story of engineer Giovanni Ludovico Montagnani, environmental activist, teaches us that overcoming the most complex obstacles is not impossible: a lesson for tackling climate change with greater determination
On 3 July 2022 Giovanni, while climbing the Mittelruck shield, in the Alps around Lake Maggiore, after a forty meter flight, found himself in a bed in the Spinal Unit at the Maggiore Hospital in Novara, with a diagnosis of paraplegia. This not exactly encouraging premise is actually the beginning of an incredible and tireless adventure that led him to Paralympic gold in a canoe and to walk with the help of crutches.
His commitment against climate change after the accident also intensified with the foundation of the Association “There will be a Bel Clima”, created to encourage young people to increase their urgent commitment to block climate change with decisive, determined actions , creative, in the trust and awareness that it can and must be done.
