CAGLIARI (ITALPRESS) – Many illustrious names in Cagliari for the 2024 Italian Championships, the last ones before the Paris Olympic Games. In the individual foil there was a double confirmation: Alessio Foconi for men and Francesca Palumbo for women, both from the Air Force, returned to the top step of the podium one year after the successes of the last edition of La Spezia 2023. In the trials in the teams, however, the foil players of the Fiamme Gialle triumphed led by the Olympic Bianchi, flanked by the young Giuseppe Franzoni and Giulio Lombardi, while among the foil players the Fiamme Oro of Alice Volpi, Martina Favaretto, Erica Cipressa and Giulia Amore rejoiced.
The individual épée among men saw the 22-year-old Enrico Piatti of the Air Force win his first overall title, in the competition which marked the farewell from the competitive activity of three champions of the specialty such as the Olympian Matteo Tagliariol (who left with a bronze ), the two-time world champion Paolo Pizzo and the Olympic team silver medalist Marco Fichera. Among the sword-like affirmations of Giulia Rizzi of the Fiamme Oro, an increasingly star performer this season. In the men’s team épée, fifth consecutive tricolor for the Fiamme Oro, lined up with Gianpaolo Buzzacchino, Valerio Cuomo, Davide Di Veroli and Marco Fichera, while in the women’s event the Aeronautica Militare of Alessandra Bozza, Gaia Caforio, Marta Ferrari and Federica Isola won . In individual sabre, two first times. Two Olympic athletes, who are about to be part of the Italian expedition to Paris 2024, won those championships that they had never yet won in their careers among the Absolutes: Luca Curatoli of the Fiamme Oro for men and Michele Battiston of the Air Force for women. Finally, in the team sabre, the men’s title went to the Fiamme Oro of Luca Curatoli, Pietro Torre, Francesco Bonsanto and Riccardo Nuccio, while in the women’s category the Fiamme Gialle triumphed with Irene Vecchi, Benedetta Fusetti, Manuela Spica and Camilla Mancini.
