The 2024/2025 season of Gioiello Theater of Turin officially debuts with “Central Park West”, a show by Woody Allen on stage from 25 to 27 October 2024. The work tells the story of Phillis, a successful psychoanalyst, who ignores her husband’s betrayals. Her suspicions fall on Carol, a friend married to Woody, a man who oscillates between depression and mental excitement. The situation becomes complicated, creating an atmosphere full of misunderstandings and incredible comic situations.
Four rich and successful fifty-year-olds, including Phillis and Carol, find themselves entangled in this whirlwind of sentimental betrayals. Perhaps they are trying to discover the secret of happiness. The dialogue is sparkling, the jokes are lightning-fast, and the comedy doesn’t stray far from Allen’s clichés. However, “Central Park West” presents a more caustic streak and less notoriety than other works by the master.
A hilarious and engaging show in which Allen once again uses his characters to highlight the worst side of life, always with irony, absurdity and paradoxes, allowing us to laugh at a realistic picture of contemporary society and reflect on life.
