Montepulciano, maintenance work completed at Porta al Prato

The works involving the roofing of the building have been completed in these hours Door to the Meadowone of the main access routes to the historic center of Montepulciano and in the next few days (Thursday 13th and Friday 14th June) the dismantling of the scaffolding which has “bundled” the bastions for around two months is expected. The interventions, carried out directly by the workers and coordinated by the technical office of the Municipality of Montepulciano, involved the construction of masonry interventions on the entire covering of the door, on the tiles and on the tiles, as well as on the wooden structure, now deteriorated. As required by law, screw lines were also installed for any future interventions on the roof.

“We thank all the municipal workers involved in the maintenance work – comments the mayor Michele Angiolini – in addition to this first part of interventions, it is our intention to also proceed with a more comprehensive cleaning and conservative restoration intervention of the two bastions of Porta al Prato, including the restoration of the frieze and the arch, in order to conserve and preserve an important part of the public artistic and architectural heritage of the city”.

Traffic. In order to allow the dismantling of the scaffolding, by order of the Municipal Police, a temporary transit ban has been established for all categories of vehicles within Porta al Prato from 11 am (after the loading and unloading passage has ended) until at 6pm on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th June 2024. At the same time, vehicles authorized to access zone A of the ZTL will be able to travel along via di Ciliano continuing towards Piazza Pasquino and, subsequently, re-enter via di Gracciano nel Corso. In case of need, the transit of emergency and police vehicles will still be guaranteed. The ‘Pollicino’ public bus service is suspended in viale Sangallo and via di Gracciano nel Corso. Furthermore, a temporary parking ban has been established for all categories of vehicles in the construction site area and the total closure of the ramp that connects via di Gracciano nel Corso to via di Ciliano, from 7.00 am on 13 June to 6.00 pm on 14 June and in any case until the end of the works.

Finally, the municipal administration of Montepulciano thanks the Sorlini-Baresi family, owners of a restaurant near Door to the Meadowfor having co-financed the purchase of pigeon deterrents installed to further protect the great architectural heritage of Porta al Prato and the entire surrounding area.
