According to investigations by District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Naples, Oscar Pecorelli, born in 1979 and detained since 2010 for murder, would have reinvested illicit capital in the leather sector, among other activities such as usury and the trade of luxury watches. Recently, he was the subject of a seizure decree signed by the prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office led by Nicola Gratteri. The investigations conducted by the Gico of the Economic-Financial Police Unit of Naples and the Central Investigative Unit of Rome of the penitentiary police revealed that Pecorelli, despite his detention, continued to manage illicit affairs via a “secret” telephone, influencing criminal activities in area of Miano, long dominated by the Lo Russo clan, known as the “Capitoni”.
During military interceptions of the Fiamme Gialle, it emerged that one of Pecorelli’s “figureheads” had proposed a deal relating to Avellino during a telephone “summit” with the boss from Opera prison. This move appeared to be aimed at diverting attention from Naples and avoiding direct connections with companies previously involved in false invoicing operations, involving paper mills worth millions of euros.
The investigations of the Naples DDA are still ongoing, also focusing on a company based in the province of Avellino potentially involved in the business, and linked to the individual who had consulted with Pecorelli during the Camorra “summit”.
Irpinia has a history of connections with the Lo Russo clan, highlighted by the 2014 capture of Luigi Russo, affiliated with the clan and wanted for attempted murder and Camorra association. This connection continues to influence events such as the “Snake” operation of 2018, where clan leaders were involved in drug trafficking through Spain, destined for the provinces of Naples and Avellino.
