PERUGIA – A walk in the historic center to discover the history of the leader Braccio Fortebracci, the small Jewish neighborhood where numerous Jewish families lived starting from the 13th century and the rebellion of the city’s people who rose up against the salt tax: these are the Grand Tour events Perugia on stage in the Umbrian capital this weekend.

It starts with a double appointment with “I places of Braccio” Friday 14 June at 5 pm Sunday 16 June at 10.30. The journey that will start in the acropolis will discover the history of the life and exploits of the leader Braccio Fortebracci who, after various vicissitudes, battles and conquests, settled in the Olivetan convent on Mount Morcino Vecchio and obtained the lordship, making the his official entry into the city on 19 July 1416.

Saturday 15 June at 4pm there will be space for “The Jewish Quarter of Perugia” an incursion along the streets and alleys of the historic centre: a journey through the maze of streets of the small neighborhood where the community lived (and of which there has been news in the Umbrian capital since the 13th century) accompanied by historical notes and curiosities about Jewish families.

Sunday 16 June at 4pm another dive into the past with “The Salt War” which recalls the events that occurred in the Umbrian capital in 1540 when the people of Perugia rose up against the salt tax requested by Paul III Farnese and which subsequently led to the construction of the imposing Rocca Paolina, representative of papal power in the city. Stage after stage we will relive the historical events of those days.
