On June 21st, the Italian Hydrographic Society (IHS) will host a conference in Acireale to commemorate the World Hydrography Day. The event will be sponsored by the International Hydrographic Organization, and byHydrographic Institute of the Navy of Genoa. The event aims to increase public awareness and understanding of the vital role that hydrography and hydrographers play in achieving a sustainable and harmonious relationship with our oceans.
World Hydrography Day / How did it come about?
On June 21st of each year, the “World Hydrography Day”, date chosen by the United Nations General Assembly. The date chosen is in memory of the International Hydrographic Bureau (IHB) based in the Principality of Monaco. Its task is to coordinate, harmonize and promote the crucial hydrographic activity globally.
21 June: program and themes of the event 
The conference agenda will include presentations, discussions and valuable insights from leading hydrographic professionals. The forum will explore the following topics. Starting from the theme of the sea, we will talk about the contribution ofoffshore wind to environmental knowledge and energy transition, with careful application of the rules for hydrographic surveys. The focus of the event will be hydrography, a key tool for the design and development of floating wind farms.
As per full program publishedAll this will be combined with some approaches to the observation of the deep marine environment for scientific purposes with the support of hydrography. Furthermore, in conclusion, a hydrographic solution integrated with coastal mapping and monitoring will be presented.

By promoting public awareness of hydrography, the IHS hopes to cultivate a deeper appreciation for the importance of protecting our oceans and ensuring their continued health and vitality. In addition to the two most important institutions for hydrography, the event is sponsored and supported by the Italian Coast Guard and the Sicilian Region Assembly. But also from the City of Acireale and the Italian Red Cross. Other partners include AIAS Acireale, Italian Institute of Navigation, ONTM National Observatory for the Protection of the Sea.
