Record elections and abstentionism, the open letter from Mayor Sergi: “Platì brings up the rear in the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, in Italy, in Europe”

We receive and publish:

to the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini to the President of the Calabria Region Roberto Occhiuto and to the Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria Giuseppe Falcomatà

Dear President of the Republic, Dear Prime Minister, Honorable Minister of Transport, Honorable President of the Calabria Region, Dear Metropolitan Mayor, today in Platì the greatest defeat of Democracy took place, the percentage of citizens who went to vote it is very low. This attitude of the citizens demonstrates once again the great distance of the citizens of Platies towards politics in general and towards European politics in particular. After having positioned itself among the 10 least educated municipalities in Italy, today it is probably about to conquer the sad record of the municipality where the strongest abstentionism in Italy and Europe was recorded.

Through TV, social media and newspapers, the citizens of Platies find themselves faced with a Europe that boasts asphalted roads with horizontal and vertical signs, with gard rails that impose very high safety standards.

In Platì the roads are bordering on impassability and in the last year 4 young victims have been recorded along the Platì-Bovalino road section, whose lives have been shattered due to the lack of protective barriers.

The Sp2 has been closed to traffic – in the Platì Zervo section – for over ten years ANAS struggles to carry out ordinary and extraordinary maintenance activities, Platì, despite being a mountain municipality, cannot even access the Aspromonte National Park;

the Sp 79 and 79 dir seem to have been bombed by Russian fighters and we are thinking of asking for NATO intervention to restore practicability.

The impassability of these roads also discouraged the voters of the populous districts of Gioppo and Lauro from going to the polls; out of 810 voters with voting rights including the AIRE component, they went to polling station no. 5 of Platì, only in 54 together with the Presidents and Scrutineers for whom numerous subrogations and substitutions were necessary.

The SP 77 which from Cirella di Platì leads to the crossroads towards Ciminà has numerous open construction sites and for years their failure to close and complete the works has been recorded, the asphalt appears irregular, the horizontal and vertical signs do not exist and the barriers are insufficient to ensure road safety.

The cry of pain that the citizens of Platies launch today cannot remain unheard, the infrastructural gap that is also recorded compared to the metropolitan area, the rest of Italy, and Europe presents a very wide gap, the post-war roads that the citizens of Platies are forced to travel or rather not to travel represent an obstacle to the construction of a normal relationship between citizens and institutions.

We invite the President Sergio Mattarella, the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini to travel the aforementioned roads on military vehicles, suitable for overcoming potholes and chasms, so as to personally realize the pitiful conditions of the road system in which they are located. forced our Citizens, hoping that your visit will be a stimulus to the supra-municipal bodies responsible for acting quickly.

Having said all this, we hope for a change of direction in the management of the resources allocated to roads by the supra-municipal bodies towards the city area of Platì, distant from any party interest, but close to the interests of the citizens for whom the Mayor of Platì is spokesperson, helping the last and those in the trenches is the only ROAD that can lead to the development of the Nation.

The citizens of Platies owed so much to the supra-municipal bodies for appropriate knowledge for the relevant activities.

The Mayor of Platì and National Director of UNCEM

Dr. Rosario Sergi
