TERAMO. Two projects to enhance the archaeological sites of Piazza Sant’Anna and Via Sant’Antonio. The Superintendence and the Municipality of Teramo are collaborating to make them usable, as they cannot be visited today and in the case of the mosaics in Via Sant’Antonio not even visible. In fact, here the finds, discovered during the redevelopment works of the small road that connects Corso Cerulli with Via Savini, were covered after a short period of light to protect them while waiting to understand exactly how to intervene. The Superintendence, both on this site and on the larger archaeological space of Piazza Sant’Anna, has clear ideas and the objective is univocal: to make both visitable. The how was explained in recent days by the superintendent Abap L’Aquila-Teramo Cristina Collettini on the sidelines of a press conference dedicated to the discovery of the Piano d’Accio necropolis. «The findings in via Sant’Antonio were very important: they are two Roman domus with mosaics and frescoed plaster which we have now made safe by covering them», said Collettini, «we are collaborating with the administration to understand how to enhance them: I I would push for a contemporary art project with coverage of the entire alley that could create an archaeological walk.”
As regards Piazza Sant’Anna, the superintendent recalled that there is ministerial funding available for the restoration of the archaeological structures and a regional FSC one to create a roof that is a true suspended square, usable and connected to the excavations. On this front there is already a project worth around 2.5 million euros by the Tercas Foundation, supported by the Superintendency and approved by the Municipality two years ago. On both sites the administration «is at the forefront and fully collaborative with the Superintendency: we have already approved the Foundation’s project for Piazza Sant’Anna in 2022, with the creation of a suspended square, which now sees the availability of FSC funds and this allows us to accelerate”, explains the mayor Gianguido D’Alberto, «for via Sant’Antonio the covering of the mosaics was decided by the Superintendency with the aim of preserving them and having time to define together a project that could soon lead to making them visible. It is clear that this can be done when the Pnrr and post-earthquake works on the former covered market and the Braga are completed to avoid further burdening the traffic with the pedestrianization of via Sant’Antonio. We all agree on the need to enhance our sites and connect them to each other in a quality cultural journey. The Madonna delle Grazie area also fits into this: I hope that the Superintendency can speed up to restore the usability of the archaeological garden”, concludes the mayor.(vm)
