“It’s always the same story! The city of Salerno is unable to satisfy the needs of hundreds of tourists who have landed in our municipality and are practically abandoned to themselves! It happened last June 2, on the occasion of Republic Day, when visitors got off the Celebrity Constellation cruise ship and found themselves walking in a city with most of the shops closed, it happened on these first, hot, Sundays with a summer flavor and will happen again, unfortunately.”
The complaint comes from the lawyer Ciro Sammartino, citizen coordinator of Noi Moderati Salerno, for whom there would be serious responsibilities on the part of the municipal administration in the management of tourism dynamics. «What needs to be done is quite clear, and has been for years. It is a problem of “reception” and “organization” that is not even that difficult to resolve”, says lawyer Sammartino.
According to the representative of Noi Moderati, a greater number of info points set up near the disembarkation points would be needed, with qualified staff who know how to communicate at least in English with visitors; a shuttle service that can efficiently take them to the most interesting places in the city; a robust distribution of maps and brochures for those who want to do it themselves.”

And this, in our opinion, is the task of the Municipality of Salerno. Present a program of initiatives, incentives and information. A well-thought-out calendar of openings and events, coinciding with the arrival of the cruise ships. Open a serious dialogue between the bodies, so that all useful and necessary initiatives are agreed upon. In short, everything that can allow Salerno to make the long-awaited “qualitative leap” – adds the city coordinator of Noi Moderati Salerno – The dream of many years ago of having a city full of tourists is now coming true, and it is It’s truly a shame that this industry isn’t exploited as it should be due to the laziness or inability of those who govern our municipality. It’s not enough just for bars, clubs and restaurants to do their honest work and do it well. There is so much more in Salerno! Art, culture, craftsmanship, typical products, entertainment. And then churches, museums, gardens, places of interest and a historic center to be envied. So why not give ourselves the chance, like the “docet” Amalfi Coast, to live off tourism?”.
