Stefan Schwoch, former sporting director as well as striker (with 135 goals he is the best scorer of all time in the cadet championship) and champion of Lane, spoke to TuttoB.
In the first leg, Carrarese would have deserved something more: do you agree?
“In the first 20 minutes the Tuscans certainly did better, but then the match settled back into balance and Vicenza didn’t risk much anymore. In the final, however, the red and whites had a great opportunity to take the lead with Costa.”
At the Stadio dei Marmi on Sunday, a largely restructured Vicenza will present itself (6 absent): is the defection of Ronaldo or that of the Ferrari bomber more serious in the economy of the Berica team?
“We are talking about very important players: Ronaldo dictates the tempo, guarantees clarity and geometry, has great personality and a good shot; Ferrari, on the other hand, is alone at the front. Unfortunately, I fear that these defections, as well as that of Golemic, will make themselves felt in the long run. Lane will have to play the perfect match, against a difficult Carrarese team who have interesting game ideas.”
Vecchi and Calabro, both substitutes in the race, did an excellent job in turning the corner on their respective teams, who came one step away from the dream of promotion.
“Yes exactly. Vecchi arrived at the bedside of a Vicenza team built to win and his hand was immediately visible: he is a good, pragmatic coach, and his team shows great compactness and defensive solidity. It’s no coincidence that Lane hasn’t lost since January 20th… As for Calabro, he took over a team that aspired to the playoffs and gave it intensity and a winning mentality. His merits are there for all to see because the least expected team of the lot reached the final.”
Can the synthetic pitch in Carrara penalize Vicenza?
“Absolutely yes. If it were up to me, I would ban synthetics. Everyone should play on the same surface, no exceptions. Having said that, Carrarese will undoubtedly be able to benefit from the habit of playing on synthetic surfaces, where the ball has a completely different bounce. It won’t be easy for Vicenza.”
How will it end?
“With full ranks, Vicenza would have had a much better chance of making it, but the heavy defections they will have to overcome make the match more uncertain; indeed, I would say that Carrarese, precisely by virtue of the field factor, starts with a slight advantage”.
