Lamezia Terme – A well-attended public meeting was held at the headquarters of the “Sincronia” association in Sant’Eufemia Lamezia to inform and raise awareness among citizens regarding the socio-economic and political repercussions and related risks of the draft law on differentiated regional autonomy. The event was promoted by the association “Il Vizio di Vivere e non solo”, represented by the president Marinella Pucci and the vice-president Felice Lentidoro, by the associations “Italia Nostra” and “Lalati Cronici” represented by Giuseppe Gigliotti, and by Codacons, represented by the national vice-president, lawyer Francesco Di Leto, with the participation of Marco Ammendola, head of the organizing Press Office.

A worrying picture, as emerged in the introduction by Pucci and Lentidoro, which could arise from the approval of the bill which provides for the autonomy of the regions to legislate autonomously on 23 different subjects – including health, school, transport, infrastructure, finance – with obvious consequences on opening the gap between regions that have greater resources and others that – such as Calabria and the south – find themselves in difficulty. In favor of the plan, Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Veneto and Piedmont, areas where, as explained by Lentidoro, “as regards the healthcare sector, the LEAs (essential levels of assistance) are above the threshold of 90% compared to 64% of the Calabria, where life expectancy has decreased by two and a half years, social services do not work like in the north and in Lamezia, for example, we only have three public nursery schools. To silence discontent, five days before the vote, a decree was proposed that should reduce the waiting lists in our hospitals, for example through the initiative of shifts on holidays, but without allocating even a single euro for this purpose, as if it could be done for free.” “Even the proposal of the LEP (essential performance levels), which according to the government and the favorable regions should eliminate the problem of the gap, has never been developed to date”, adds Di Leto, “And even if this were to happen, it is obvious that there would be difficulties in respecting them, as is already happening for the LEAs”.

Gigliotti’s speech focuses on the difficulties of our territory, although it describes a complex and difficult situation. “We have 56 empty positions in the Region for the appointment of general practitioners. 500 arrived from Cuba, but in 2023 alone, 500 Calabrian doctors emigrated to work abroad, without the region being able to employ them. Our children, after graduation and postgraduate studies, have no choice but to leave, and the situation will get worse with this bill.” Hence an excursus on the urban degradation of the city, and on the burst of pride that citizens should have when faced with a territory with a thousand resources, which should be better valorised. “In Catanzaro the situation is no better” adds Di Leto, “there are only two public kindergartens, and the city is no longer clean. Everything has been privatised, in a system where the aim is profit and the employees of contracted companies are the new slaves. Differentiated Autonomy is the reform of the rich: that is, the one that will make the rich increasingly richer and the poor increasingly poorer, in which the resources will all return to the hands of the same people who hold them, in spite of the concept of solidarity expressed in the Constitution ”. A Constitution which, as Marco Ammendola explains, would like “one and indivisible Italy, without inequalities, healthcare and education for all, against the progressive corporatisation which ruins what was one of the best systems in the world”. Hence an invitation to all citizens to actively militancy, and to ensure with their vote that Italy does not become a place where disparity and social injustice end up polluting the norm and civil life.
