A tragic accident has led a family to ask for over 900,000 euros in compensation from the Provincial Health Authority (ASP) of Agrigento.

The case dates back to almost a decade ago, when a man, after being discharged from a hospital in the province of Agrigento, tragically died after falling from the roof of the retirement home where he had been transferred.

According to family members, the discharge from the hospital was deemed “incautious”, as the patient would have required further treatment or more careful supervision.

The case has raised significant questions regarding the responsibility of healthcare institutions in managing the safety of patients, especially the most vulnerable.

In response to this tragic event, the daughter and wife of the deceased started legal action, relying on a lawyer to bring the case to the court of Agrigento.

They are asking for compensation of 901,060 euros, based on an estimate that could still increase following the investigations. The sum was calculated to compensate for the moral, biological and existential damage suffered by the family.

The first hearing is scheduled for October this year, and the ASP has announced that it will appear in court to contest the charges, claiming that it was not responsible for the accident.

This case highlights the importance of safety in health and care settings, as well as highlighting the legal and moral complexities families face when incidents of this nature occur. The resolution of the case could have significant implications for safety policies and health procedures across the province.
