CROTONE – The Crotone Football Club makes the first move for the 2024-2025 season and officially announces that it has entrusted the role of sporting director to Antonio Amodio.
The news had been circulating for weeks, practically already after the disastrous exit from the playoffs. On Friday 7 June it was made official: Antonio Amodio joins the club with a two-year agreement.
Amodio, 37 years old from Torre del Greco, began his career as a sports manager in Spal, as scouting manager for the Centre-South. He was later sporting director of Sorrento, before moving to the Polisportiva Santa Maria.
In the last two seasons he was the sporting director of Giugliano Footballcontributing to the Campania club’s historic participation in the Serie C playoffs.
“I know Crotone well, I’ve come there several times and so I have no problems moving,” Amodio said tothe Crotone area in a statement released to Luigi Saporito on May 24th when negotiations with the Calabrian company were underway: “I must add – continued Amodio – that I know the general manager Raffaele Vrenna well with whom I have an excellent relationship. He knows perfectly how I work and how I have worked and if a club decides to change sporting director and offers a two-year contract to the next one who arrives it is because they have faith and will put him in a position to work otherwise it would be useless to take someone like me. I – Amodio underlined in a joking tone – also have a bad temper and Raffaele knows me well and so we are waiting for events to evolve”.
Amodio will be the third sporting director in three years at Crotone. The company decides to change again in stark contrast to what has been done in past years thanks to Giuseppe Ursino’s 27 years of militancy. Fabio Massimo Conti’s experience ended within a season as did that of Giuseppe Di Bari, two profiles who struggled to carve out the role for which they were called.
