Navy Day will be celebrated on Monday 10 June, at 10.30 am in Civitavecchia, in the presence of the highest institutional officials of Defense and the Navy.
Navy Day commemorates the anniversary of the Premuda Action of 10 June 1918, a major and daring naval operation of the First World War. On that occasion, the Anti-Submarine Motorboats 15 and 21, led by Lieutenant Commander Luigi Rizzo, attacked and sank the enemy battleship Szent Istvan, preventing an incursion against the Allied anti-submarine blockade in the Otranto Channel.
During the ceremony, the ships Paolo Thaon di Revel and Francesco Morosini will receive the battle flag. Vessel Vulcano will be awarded the gold medal of merit for its exceptional healthcare service, as a hospital ship within the Levante operation, to patients coming from the Gaza Strip.
In Piazza della Vita, a Marina Village will be set up, where the public will be able to try their hand at helicopter, hurricane dinghy and submarine simulators. There will also be stands of the Divers and Raiders Command, the San Marco Marine Brigade, the Navy Hydrographic Institute and the Italian Naval League with a sailing vessel simulator.
For the occasion, the Navy will open some ships and installations to the public throughout the national territory.
The complete program of the three-day Civitavecchia Navy Festival also includes visits to the ships in port, in addition to the long-awaited concert on Sunday evening in Piazza della Vita and the institutional ceremony on Monday at 10.30.
Precisely for this event, the territory was affected by the passage of military aircraft in exercise. No further passages of the F-35 jet are therefore expected until Monday.
