They would have committed thefts in some companies in Umbria, Emilia Romagna, Lazio and Marche, taking possession of goods worth over 265 thousand euros overall, six people arrested this morning by the police in the province of Caserta. The staff of the Perugia police headquarters, with the collaboration of the Caserta flying squad, at the conclusion of a vast and complex investigative activity, executed – in Parete and Villa Literno (Caserta) – a precautionary custody order in prison issued by the Investigating judge of the Court of Perugia against five Romanian citizens aged between 32 and 39 and a Pakistani citizen aged 40, considered seriously suspected of the crimes of aggravated theft in competition and attempted theft in competition. The investigations, carried out by the mobile squad of the Perugia police headquarters, began in June last year, when four of the suspects – according to the reconstruction of the investigators – after having forced the entrance gate of a farm in Perugia, stole several household appliances . Subsequently, outside, they forced open a tank and the inspection wells of the photovoltaic panels, taking possession of 420 liters of diesel and the electrical cable of the system, approximately 900 meters long, for an estimated value of approximately 100,000 euros. The viewing of the video surveillance footage with which the company was equipped and the further investigations carried out allowed the staff of the Perugia flying squad to trace the identity of three Romanian citizens and the Pakistani citizen believed to be involved in the events. The investigative activity then continued also through listening to numerous telephone interceptions and the analysis of cell phone GPS systems. The four, together with the other two Romanians, are believed to be the perpetrators – reports the Perugia Prosecutor’s Office – of other thefts in agricultural companies and in the primary sector in Bertinoro (Forlì Cesena), an episode that occurred on the night between 17 and 18 August 2023; Viterbo, on the night between 23 and 24 August 2023; Rimini, on the night between 4 and 5 June 2023; Monbaroccio (Pesaro Urbino), on the night between 11 and 14 August 2023; Cesena, on the night between 23 and 24 August 2023; and an attempted theft in a company in Valmontone (Rome), on 31 August 2023.

Specifically, the thieves, alternating from time to time in the commission of crimes and, in some cases, in competition with people who remain unknown at the moment, at night – almost always using burglary tools – they would have entered the companies, taking possession, depending on the case, of diesel fuel for over 1,500 litres, electrical cables for a total length of over 9 kilometres, three vans and various work equipment. Having acquired the provision of the investigating judge, the police activated the searches. Of the six suspects, one is already detained for other crimes in the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, four – residents of Campania – have been tracked down and locked up in the same penitentiary facility and one is currently untraceable. To find it, searches will also be carried out at an international level.
