Three questions to… Mario Nosengo

After the preview in May, Asti Teatro will open next Thursday, now in its forty-sixth edition.

The official opening will take place at 9.30 pm in Piazza Italia with the “Mythical circus walk” with Milo Scotton and the acrobats of the ArteMakìa company.

The festival dedicated to contemporary theater and new forms of drama has always offered a rich program of national and regional premieres. The Festival, renowned for its ability to bring together the most diverse and heterogeneous proposals, will also this year be directed by Mario Nosengo, with the collaboration of Eugenio Fea.

But we hear directly from the director’s voice what this year’s proposals will be.

What is the “leitmotif” of Asti Teatro 2024?

“The underlying theme is nostalgia in the past, present and future. We shared this common thread with councilor Candelaresi. The nostalgia for a past that no longer exists, with a present and a future to be built and which we must take into account, but which frees itself from the most melancholy connotations and takes on the value of constructive intergenerational dialogue, updating history, folklore and tradition in a tourist, as well as cultural and social key. The return to the past is a constant theme, to the 80s, 90s and 2000s, because it is full of values that will never disappear, because perhaps things were better, there was more optimism. Technology allows us to connect the past, present and future. For young people, under 35, protagonists in the pre-evening of the festival, the past is a recurring theme with today’s language”.

After last year’s experience, what are the things you promised yourself you would never do again, which ones did you propose again and what new things do you have in store for 2024?

“The goal of this festival is to attract a valid audience, and, in my opinion, with this program we can do it. The various genres that we offer both in the regional and national premieres are a feather in our cap, a great job has been done especially for the public and then also for the bodies contributing to the financing of the festival. Last year’s experience was, fundamentally, positive. For me it was the first time, it was a great responsibility, a festival must be designed to meet everyone’s needs: the public ‘first and foremost’, contributing bodies, political needs. The billboard in 2023 was developed in just over two weeks.”

What are the objectives of the 2024 edition?

“This year is another story, we have developed it in a clearer way, trying to contemplate the various needs and satisfy a wide range of audiences: it will be a transversal festival with musicals, dance theatre, musical comedy , prose with great work by Eugenio Fea and also by Marina Occhionero, this year only behind the scenes but from next year I hope also on stage. We would like it to become a springboard for all the companies that make their regional or national debut so that they can enter the various circuits thanks to our contribution”.
