[PISA] PD-GIANI SYSTEM: MORE CUTS AND CLOSURES OF TERRITORIAL PUBLIC STRUCTURES!

The critical issues of the NATIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM (NHS) forcefully highlighted in the era of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic require and impose a rethinking of the institutional and organizational model of the system itself, to which new dynamics could be added determined by the implementation of further institutional reforms, including the exercise of differentiated regional competences.

Public healthcare is falling apart and moving in silence towards privatisation: in 10 years 37 billion have been cut, with most of these resources destined for weapons and war, waste, inefficiencies and privatizations making the National Health Service the most ‘ great public work ever built in Italy collapsed and slowly and progressively crumbled. No executive has ever had the courage to put public health at the center of the political agenda, ignoring that the loss of a public health service, fair and universalistic, in addition to compromising people’s health and undermining a fundamental right protected by the constitution (Art 32), it will lead to an unprecedented social and economic disaster.

Today we learn from the local newspaper Il Tirreno that the Navacchio nursing home will close if 400 thousand euros are not found to break the annual budget in balance, a trifle compared to the 190 million euros for the new military base decreed by the Draghi and Meloni, with the bipartisan agreement at the local level between mayor Conti and the PD.

Structure, that of the Navacchio hospital, which offers an important local health service for all those patients sent by the ASL Tuscany North West and the Pisan university hospital who require low intensity care (40 beds), and which has already seen the community house which allowed it to take care of people in precarious conditions from a social and health point of view while waiting for the necessary assistance to arrive. Currently, nurses and doctors work in the low care and post-acute departments, allowing the acute hospital departments to be relieved of people still in need of care and tests that cannot be done at home, but are now stabilized.

The false promises of the governor of Tuscany Giani a few weeks ago “no hospital at risk will be closed”, once again highlight the causes, cuts in funding with the excuse of sustainability, cuts in staff and public health facilities, the progressive replacement of the public by private individuals who now control 50% of the healthcare market.

We reject yet another attack on public health, sacrificed on the altar of private profits and military spending.
