VITTORIA – The police have arrested several suspects issued by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Catania for attempted aggravated murder and mafia association. For now, the measures have affected a 51-year-old, a 62-year-old and a 48-year-old, all with criminal prejudices. The measures were adopted as the suspects were charged, in conjunction with each other, with the crimes of attempted murder against a former justice collaborator and mafia-style criminal association.
The attempted murder occurred on April 25th in Vittoria with the use of firearms on the orders of a dangerous mafia-style armed criminal organization attributable to the “Stidda Vittoria”. According to the investigators, there is the objective of the physical elimination of a list of people who have collaborated with the justice system and who are present in Vittoria, including the very recipient of the ambush, with the aim of revenge and in order to consolidate exclusive control of all illicit affairs of interest to the criminal organization in Vittoria and the entire province of Ragusa.
The investigative activity also made it possible to shed light on the availability of a considerable number of weapons, including war weapons, and on the possible use of these weapons by members of the mafia clan to carry out the criminal plan of the organization and to acquire control of city economic activities through extortion activities carried out against numerous entrepreneurs and traders. One of the suspects was found in possession of a 357 magnum revolver with abraded serial number and loaded with the relevant ammunition. The 3 arrested were therefore taken to the Bicocca prison in Catania.
