MASSA MARITTIMA – Thanks to the extraordinary public and critical success achieved in these first months, the exhibition “Sassetta and his time will be extended until September 15th. A look at the Sienese art of the early fifteenth century”, set up at the Museum of San Pietro all’Orto in Massa Marittima and curated by Alessandro Bagnoli.

The exhibition event, inaugurated last March 15th, brought over 3,300 visitors to the San Pietro all’Orto museum according to data recorded as of May 31st. This is a good result considering that in just two and a half months the equivalent of tickets were sold that the museum usually manages to sell over the course of an entire year.

Also interesting is the data on the groups coming from Tuscany and from outside the region: 25 associations and groups of art enthusiasts who visited Massa Marittima, attracted by this particular exhibition event, to which are added another 7 groups who have booked for June and for the first half of July. Local schools also show interest in the exhibition project and several classes have visited the exhibition while others will do so in the next few days, before the end of the school year.

Furthermore, the in-depth events organized around the exhibition were very successful: from the guided tour combined with the aperitif in the museum courtyard, to the workshops for children, up to the AttivaMente Arte meetings, dedicated to the guests of the San Giuseppe and Falusi care homes. And then the double guided tour of the Museum of San Pietro all’Orto and the Scarlino fresco thanks to the collaboration of the Sozzi-Sabatini property and the Municipality of Scarlino, an experience that is still possible to do, upon reservation, every Saturday and Sunday until July 14th.

The exhibition “Sassetta and his time” was born as an indispensable initiative to deepen knowledge of the historical-artistic heritage of the San Pietro all’Orto Museum in Massa Marittima, where an announcing Angel painted by the Sienese master for a polyptych is preserved missing today. Thanks to the collaboration of national institutions and museums, a group of works, over 50, have been placed around this precious ‘relic’, partly by the Sienese master, but also by other artists close to him.

The catalog has also been available since the end of May, a tool of scientific value that takes into account the studies carried out in recent years around Sassetta.

The exhibition is promoted by the Municipality of Massa Marittima, with the patronage of the Tuscany Region, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Siena – Colle Val d’Elsa – Montalcino, the Cultural Heritage Department of the University of Siena, the Diocese of Massa Marittima – Piombino, the National Art Gallery of Siena, the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Provinces of Siena, Grosseto and Arezzo.

Visiting hours: until June 30th from Tuesday to Sunday 9.30am – 1.00pm 2.30pm – 6.00pm and from 1st July to 31st August every day 9.30am – 1.00pm 2.30pm – 6.00pm. from 1st to 15th September closed on Mondays and open on other days from 9.30am – 1.00pm 2.30pm – 6.00pm.
