The anticyclone Minos brings anomalous heat and sultriness to Italy. The first peak of the heat will be reached between Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th June just as summer begins.

From today, June 17, the African anticyclone Minos will arrive across Italy and will cause the thermometer to rise to a mercury column throughout the Peninsula. Temperatures with peaks of up to 40°C.

It will therefore be a week of practically summer weather, with high pressure rapidly extending its presence throughout the country. Only in Veneto will there still be some residual bad weather with the Civil Protection having decided to issue a yellow weather alert for hydraulic risk in some sectors of the Region.

An increase in temperatures, with values ​​of approximately 8-10°C above the averages of the period, caused by the humid and warm air masses of subtropical origin which, from the heart of the anticyclone arriving from Africa, will push from the expanses of the Sahara towards the Mediterranean.

The hottest days of the week will probably be Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th: locally it can reach 42°C in Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily, especially in the hottest hours,

What are the hottest cities

Already from today, Monday 17 June, peaks of 35°C are expected in Puglia and Sicily, 33°C in Campania and Basilicata (Benevento and Matera). But the mercury will rise further, even in the Centre-North.

On Tuesday 18 June the maximum temperatures will reach up to 38°C in Sicily and Sardinia (but not excluding local peaks of 42°C, especially in the province of Sassari), 36°C in Benevento and Foggia, 34°C in Rome, Florence and Frosinone.

Very hot even on the northern plains with temperatures up to 35/36°C.
