Defense practically already done, attack in full evolution and midfield to be shored up. Genoa’s transfer market is moving slowly and awaiting developments, especially on the transfer front where Gudmundsson and Martinez continue to have admirers. Next year too, the Grifone midfield will be based on the direction of Badelj, on the lungs (and not only) of Frendrup, armored by the club, on the deadly left foot of Malinovskyi and on the wildcard Messias who will be joined by Thorsby and Bohinen, both redeemed after salvation.
Genoa transfer market, Miretti and Thorstvedt in the sights
The feeling, however, is that it won’t be enough and at the beginning of next season there will be at least one new face, net of any transfers. The first choice seems to be Miretti, a profile appreciated for some time by the company who already made an attempt last year. Thiago Motta will evaluate him, but if a couple of midfielders were to arrive at Juve, Koopmeiners and Luiz are the first on the list, the space for the 20-year-old Italian would be reduced quite a bit. This time the coup could therefore be successful also because the relations with the Bianconeri are excellent as demonstrated by the De Winter and Dragusin negotiations. However, it is too early to talk about formulas and costs, for now they are rumors and appreciations, we will have to wait to get to the heart of things.
On Ottolini’s list there would also be Thorstvedt, who had just been relegated with Sassuolo where he was one of the few to survive the terrible black-green season. The descent to Serie B has depreciated the price tag, which cost the Emilians 10 million euros, and the raider characteristics are those sought to make Gilardino’s midfield better, but much will depend on the requests of Sassuolo, who have always been a very clear shop.
The other names for the midfield
In addition to Miretti and Thorstvedt, there are some other profiles that have been compared to the Griffin. The possibility of purchasing a deputy Badelj to help him grow right behind the Croatian without haste and pressure is being studied. Sensi’s name has been circulating, but it has not been confirmed, while two other Juventus players appear to be more interesting.
The first is Barrenechea, also like Miretti on the rossoblu’s radar for some time, who played a leading season in Serie A in Frosinone, still maturing after being the pivot of the Next Gen. Genoa could also evaluate Nicolussi Caviglia, a year older of the partner (23 versus 24) and similar characteristics. First names, first winks, the Grifone will do something in midfield but without haste and evaluating all possible opportunities.
