An odyssey, that of the Como bulkhead construction site, which has lasted for 16 years. Now the new lakefront is taking shape. Last March the inauguration of the new stretch of promenade in front of Piazza Cavour with the regional leaders. Furthermore, in the previous weeks the technicians also installed the containers in the square which will have to house the anti-flooding bulkheads, which will be raised in the event of flooding. The barriers, the same ones, have already been mounted in the same way in the stretch from the Sant’Agostino area to the ticket office on the lake.
In February last year the technicians intervened for a simulation of the functioning of the barriers. The bulkheads are underground, retractable and therefore not visible. In case of emergency they are extracted and mounted. “The operation is done manually but it is fast,” the technicians explained during the simulation.
Meanwhile, 16 years later we see the end of the maxi project which saw the costs rise to over 30 million euros.
In fact, according to the latest timetable provided by the Lombardy region and above all barring unforeseen circumstances, the construction site is expected to be completed at the end of June or the beginning of July. Work is now underway on laying the porphyry in the part of the promenade towards the lakeside gardens, the latter closed due to the redevelopment construction site. Also in the case of this part of the walk, the steps were created and positioned in a mirror image of what already happened in the completed portion. Once the regionally responsible works have been completed, the municipality will intervene with the installation of flowerbeds, plants and the other 25 benches on the prototype of those created by Ico Parisi.
Finally, there remains the unknown of the parapets, which have already been financed, but the timing has not yet been defined.
