“Orvieto flagship, a drama in the city in October”

Tourism and cultural policies, but also development projects for the city of Orvieto supported by the Umbria Region. These are the topics discussed in the announced meeting held Monday 3 June at the Expo Hall of the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, with the regional councilor for Budget, Tourism and Culture, Paola Agabiti, organized by Fratelli d’Italia, in the presence of the mayor of Orvieto and candidate for confirmation, Roberta Tardani.

After the introduction of the provincial coordinator of FdI, Alberto Rini, the regional president of Federalberghi-Confcommercio, Simone Fittuccia, also spoke. “Orvieto – he said – is among the symbolic cities of Umbria and among the three essential destinations for those who come to visit our region. In three years, because we were practically at a standstill for two, the city has achieved important results.

Sometimes I hear futile controversies about the data, but in the post-Covid period Orvieto has had a very important growth as a result of the work of the municipal administration with which our association has interacted constructively to find the best solutions. The work begun needs a future vision, we cannot stop and start from scratch risking losing what we have sown. For this reason, the path started must be supported and continued.

In the past tourism and culture were marginal sectors in Umbria but today, thanks to the commitment of the regional council and councilor Agabiti, important investments have been made not only in successful communication which has attracted national and international flows but also in contributions to businesses to increase the quality of hospitality”.

“In the past, Umbria lived in total darkness – said councilor Agabiti – due to the lack of vision and administration capacity on the part of the left which was unable to use the European resources available. We allocated those funds to investments and in recent years we have provided 24 million to tourism businesses.

The results we have achieved in recent years are also thanks to capable mayors, such as Roberta Tardani, who have been able to grasp the tools put in place by the Region, such as the UmbriAperta tender, to support tourism policies. Orvieto represents a flagship for Umbria for its history, culture, food and wine, and craftsmanship which we have supported with funding of over 600 thousand euros for the Ceramics Museum.

We worked together with Mayor Tardani to relaunch Orvieto as a tourist destination, enhancing the attractiveness of each territory also through an integrated promotion of Umbria in Italy and abroad for which over 2.5 million euros have been programmed. Furthermore, in October a very important drama will be filmed in Orvieto. Roberta is a true mayor, a determined, capable and far-sighted woman, a woman of action. The work that has started cannot be interrupted and gone back.”

“I thank the regional council and councilor Agabiti – said Tardani – for the closeness and attention they have had in recent years towards Orvieto and its territory not only in terms of tourism and cultural policies but also for giving shape to important city development projects, such as the coplanar, and to enhance services, such as the new Sferracavallo school.

The Region’s contribution was fundamental in financing the implementation of the territorial marketing plan with which the actions we are implementing were designed and programmed, from the digitalisation and innovation of tourist products to promotion, from the single calendar of events to the Orvieto project Experience to promote experiential tourism and increase the average stay in the area.

In recent years we have also focused on the promotion and related activities generated by the film productions that come to shoot in our city and which we have concentrated in the low season periods also to deseasonalize attendance. And while waiting for the drama in October, at the end of August and for five weeks we will host, with the contribution of the Umbria Film Commission, the filming of a new film with an important cast which will involve local workers and workers”.
