political passion and popular revolt”

On Friday 7 June at 6pm the State Archives opens its doors for “The Night of the Archives” (https://www.archivissima.it/).

On June 7, one hundred and ten years ago, a popular insurrection began in Ancona, destined to spread throughout Italy and which for a week saw many souls of the popular movement united in protest against militarism and imperialism. The triggering cause of the revolt was the killing by the police of three young people, Nello Budini, Antonio Casaccia and Attilio Giambrignani, on the occasion of a rally at the Villa Rossa in Ancona. In the Doric city the main leaders of the revolt were the republicans Pietro Nenni and Oddo Marinelli and the anarchist Errico Malatesta.

In the 2024 edition of “Archivissima _The Festival and the Night of the Archives” we remember “The Red Week” with an exhibition of documents preserved by the State Archives, including the documents of the trial to which the agitators were subjected, and with an intervention by Massimo Papini, former president of the Marche History Institute. The evening will then continue with readings from the book “Fires of June – The Red Week and other stories”, edited by the author, Adriano Ferri, and Ettore Accorroni.
