I am the co-owner of the “Oasi” center on Viale Bologna, on the corner of Via Locchi, which ended up under 4 meters of water and mud. After that May 16, 2023 we rolled up our sleeves and tried to get back on our feet. We will certainly never forget the extraordinary help given to us by the volunteers, often strangers, friends, many customers of the shop and some employees. I must also underline the total absence of public facilities. They were very hard moments, which I certainly wouldn’t want to relive. And this state of mind is what allowed us to move forward, despite the efforts made by the Municipality and the Reclamation Consortium, not to help us but to create further problems for us, also by ordering the condominium, evacuated in those days, which arises after us on Via Locchi, to proceed with the occlusion by filling the canal called the fountain drain, below them, and where we have been channeling the clear water since 2007, scrupulously respecting the instructions received from the technicians of both the municipality and the Reclamation Consortium. If this were to happen without first having implemented the appropriate technical measures, it would condemn us to the state of perpetual flood victims.
Now to avoid misunderstandings or political exploitation, I would like to be as equidistant as possible, noting that the flood events were certainly managed badly (not by hearsay but by having experienced them first-hand), but being of an unprecedented size and severity ,if there had been someone else to govern them, would things have gone better? It would have been exactly the same disaster. I wonder who governed the city in the early 1980s and allowed the construction of a building on state land crossed by a rainwater drainage canal owned by the Reclamation Consortium? And again, whoever governed the city in 2009, when the works were carried out poorly and then caused the chasms that opened up during the days of the flood under Via Locchi-Nervesa, again concerning the moving of the Fontana drainage canal, with huge public costs and which now, obviously with other huge public costs they must be redone.
