Also the The theme of integration is at the center of the civic list program “Today for Tomorrow Ceraso Sindaco”, especially given the fact that 15% of the resident population in Cremona is foreign. The group’s proposal in support of the candidacy of Maria Vittoria Ceraso “is built around at least three areas of specific priorities: participation as a means to promote the integration of third-country nationals, the involvement of the host society in the integration process, the access of immigrants to public and private institutions and services on an equal footing with the citizens of Cremona”. This is illustrated by one of the candidates, Nouzha El Aichi.

Objectives which, for the young woman, “go in continuity with what the candidate Ceraso achieved when she was councilor for Citizenship Rights of the Perri Council: the reorganization of the Mondoinsieme Intercultural Center, the close relations with the main immigrant associations, with the interreligious table, with the Islamic community in the delicate phase of construction of the new Islamic center in collaboration with the architect. Terzi and the creation of a guide to services for foreigners translated into various languages”.

“My experience as an immigrant to Italy from Morocco twenty-five years ago, but also of the other councilor candidates on the list such as George Spataru originally from Romania, Zelika Lepej from Croatia and the very young Ajazi Jessica and Laila Bouarifi born in Cremona but of Albanian and Moroccan origins , is that true integration can be achieved first and foremost by promoting participation in the life of the neighborhoodin the school and in the oratory, in particular when it comes to families with children, increasing the places available for after-school care with educational figures and not just volunteers, and through sport trying to make it accessible to everyone, even economically” continues Nouzha El Aichi.

“But to make this happen it is necessary implement literacy courses for adults as the first obstacle to integration is the lack of knowledge of the language.

Many parents do not know Italian and this also makes it difficult to communicate with the teachers. For this reason we propose the organization of Italian courses which could take place in the early hours of the morning, taking the opportunity to have mothers who bring their children stop at school, for example.

Accompaniment for the family must also be thought of on the topic of the home, of coexistence in condominiums where different ethnic groups coexist, implementing the figure of the cultural mediator.

One should be reserved for second generation foreign children particular attention to scholastic orientation: very often they are directed towards professional institutes regardless of their aptitude and abilities which could instead allow them to attend technical institutes or high schools. The issue of school abandonment and dropout also sees a high percentage of young foreigners who, after having fulfilled the obligation to attend, are not sufficiently trained to be able to carry out a profession and, having no job opportunities, may engage in antisocial and deviant behaviour.

On the topic of participation we also noticed, in the formation of the civic list, that many EU citizens, residents of the city, do not know that with a very simple procedure (registration of added lists) they could both run and vote in the municipal elections and for this reason more effective communication is necessary so that everyone feels an active part of the community” concludes the candidate.
