Contessa, a door between land and sea | “Relaunch” operation for territories on the Umbria-Marche border

Relaunch operation for the Contessa state road 452a 12 km artery that connects Umbria (Gubbio) and Marche (Cantiano).

This morning (4 June) it was presented at the headquarters of Enit, the National Tourism Agency “Contessa: a door between land and sea”project and program of territorial marketing developed by Confcommercio Marche Nord and Confcommercio Umbria-Gubbio to enhance the areas crossed by the infrastructure and support the businesses damaged during the 8 months of its closurefrom 17 April to 18 December 2023.

They were present at the appointment Amerigo Varotti (director of Confcommercio Marche Nord), Barbara Marcolini (vice president of Confcommercio Marche Nord), Barbara Marsili (president Confcommercio Umbria Gubbio) e Ivana Jelinic (CEO of Enit), as well as the mayor of Gubbio and numerous institutions.

The closure of the Countess – for important structural interventions – had heavily penalized the restaurant and tourist activities in the area, with losses in the province of Pesaro and Urbino alone of over 10% of the turnover, equal to approximately 2 million euros. This is where the need arosewith the summer season upon us, of a relaunch project to be divided into three fundamental strandslinked to the history and culture of the neighboring territories of the two regions: namely food and wine, historical-Renaissance and archaeological.

In fact, they are part of this synergistic Umbrian-Marche project – from 5 June all the initiatives will be present on lacontessaumbria.it (and on lacontessamarche.it) – “Countess’ Menu”, food and wine circuits dedicated to the discovery of restaurants and local products between Umbria and Marche. Expected from mid-June to mid-September there will also be Gastronomic Weekends of (A)Seaduring which the participating restaurants on the coast of Pesaro, Fano, Marotta and Gabicce Mare will offer, on agreed days, fish or meat menus at a special price.

Also interesting are the routes dedicated to the Montefeltro and Della Rovere familieslords of these lands: among many, Cycling in the land of the Duke, a series of tourist cycle itineraries between Urbino, Gubbio and Pesaro, and the one that leads from Umbria to Mondavio, dominated by the massive Rocca Roveresca. And then again archaeological proposals: the Roman Theater of Gubbio, the Mallio Bridge in Cagli, along the Flaminia, the archaeological park of Fossombrone and the Arch of Augustus in Fano.

“This important initiative was an awareness of the pride of the Province, a project born from a critical issue that led to a positive starting point, with the trade associations that made aggregation the true winning value” declared the Enit CEO Ivana Jelenic. This is a project that will be developed over 2024 but we hope it can go even further – he added MarsiliLthe objective is to support businesses and territories in the search for opportunities and opportunities for tourism and promotional relaunch, with slow and sustainable tourism initiatives. Those identified are physical and ideal paths shared by two regions. In a country like Italy crossed from north to south it often happens that the center is bypassed, thus underestimating its potential and attractions. Here you are, we want to enhance all the excellence that exists in the area, starting from what we have in common”.
