F2000 Formula Trophy – Third and second place for Vaglio in Imola: “If there had been race 3 I would have won…”

Not bad, but more could have been done“. Despite the good result achieved after almost a year of abstinence from racing, Umberto Vaglio he can’t enjoy the glass half full. The third and the second place in class (in race 1 and race 2 respectively) half satisfy the driver born in ’84 who jokes: “If there had been race 3 I would have won…“.

Jokes aside, Vaglio gives a first general impression of what your weekend was: “The level of competition was as high as I expected and with around forty cars on the track, many of which were practically halfway through the championship, it was difficult to find the race pace in the midst of the chaos. Then, as per tradition, there was no shortage of classic problems with the car: in free practice and in qualifying I had some problems with the gearbox, while in race 1 enormous difficulties with the brakes so especially in the first laps I was particularly cautious“.

Feeling rediscovered, qualifying time: “The session was held over two rounds, dividing the drivers on the track. With the wet track I struggled to find the rhythm, but in the end it dried out and I set two times which in fact allowed me to start in the middle of the field in both races, putting me ahead of significantly faster riders who, obviously, in the race in the dry they stripped me of paint. The fact is that in both races, for better or worse, I maintained my class position and reached the podium even though, honestly, I expected a little more. In any case, everyone tells me that I have to be happy, so I have to be (smiles, ed.)”.

Next step August 25th at Mugello: “It’s going to be a long waitVaglio closes. I hope to compensate with some tests to stay in shape, aware of having to work to raise the level and try to achieve the class victory“.
