Sixty years ago, the cry of the city celebrated Bologna’s Scudetto: it was 7 June 1964. The rossoblù triumphed in the play-off against Inter, at the Olimpico in Rome: 2-0 with goals from Fogli and Nielsen.

That was ‘the Bologna that makes the world tremble’ and that wrote the history of football, reaching seven Italian titles. Today, in 2024, the city has returned to rejoicing thanks to Joey Saputo’s boys, who brought the club back to the Champions League. Two sporting feats linked by a red and blue thread.

To celebrate the anniversary, on Thursday 6 June Resto del Carlino – throughout the Bologna area and Imola – is giving away ‘Sempre Bologna – A legendary team 1964-2024’, a 128-page magazine attached free of charge to the newspaper in which we look back the rossoblù epic of yesterday and today with historical photos, interviews, insights.

The magazine will obviously be visible in the online version for those who have a digital subscription to the newspaper and who will therefore be able to browse it on their devices.

From the origins of the Bologna myth to its European exploits (from the 1930s to the last ‘episode’ in UEFA, at the end of the 1990s, with Carletto Mazzone on the bench); from the film of the 1964 play-off to the doping scandal that risked overshadowing the rossoblù triumphs, only to turn out to be a bluff with which an attempt was made to hinder the team.

Our editors will give voice to the families of the protagonists of the time, such as Stefano Dall’Ara, the nephew of the president after whom the stadium is named, and Mariolina Bernardini, daughter of the unforgettable coach of the Scudetto, Fulvio Bernardini. We will interview the champions of past decades, from iconic players such as Beppe Signori and Gianluca Pagliuca, to the coaches who have left their mark, starting with Gigi Maifredi, prophet of champagne football and Renzo Ulivieri, with his goal cooperative.

And again, the ‘legendary’ Renato Villa, a rocky defender who remained in the hearts of the fans, the great Beppe Savoldi, Marco De Marchi, Tomas Locatelli and many others. Through period articles, we will reconstruct the city’s celebration of 1964 (here and in Rome) and show photos of the event that accompanied the Bologna bus to Piazza Maggiore to celebrate reaching the Champions League.

Past and present merge in a magazine where there will be no shortage of statistics and curiosities: you will be able to read in-depth analyzes on the turning point made by the owner Saputo and his key men, technical analyzes on the sparkling game expressed by the rossoblùs in the season and on the exploits that involved the whole city to push the club up.

So on Thursday, rush and buy the Carlino: the special ‘Sempre Bologna – A legendary team 1964-2024’ will be given to you for free. Until the end, go Bologna!
