A disturbance, arriving from central Europe, will bring a further worsening of weather conditions from the early hours of tomorrow over most of the peninsular regions, with precipitation, mostly thunderstormsparticularly in the internal and Adriatic areas of central and southern Italy.

Furthermore, it is expected a ventilation reinforcement from the north-western quadrants, with greater effects on Sardinia, Sicily and the extreme southern regions, associated with a general drop in temperatures.

Based on available forecasts, the Civil Protection Department, in agreement with the regions involved – which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the affected territories – has issued a new warning of severe weather conditions.

Weather phenomena, impacting different areas of the country, could cause hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin available on the department website.

The notice provides from the early hours of tomorrow, Tuesday 2 Julystrong to stormy north-westerly winds on Sicily, extending to Calabria, in particular the areas of the Strait of Sicily and the Ionian sectors, with storm surges along the exposed coasts.

Furthermore, also expected from the early hours of tomorrow, Scattered precipitation, mainly showers or thunderstormson Abruzzo, Molise and Puglia, extending to Campania and Basilicata.

The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy showers, frequent electrical activity, local hailstorms and strong gusts of wind.

Based on the expected and ongoing phenomena, a yellow alert has been assessed for tomorrow, Tuesday 2 July. on the Veneto, on part of Tuscany and Umbria, on the entire territory of Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Puglia, Basilicata and on part of Calabria.

The meteorological and critical situation forecast for Italy is updated daily based on new forecasts and the evolution of phenomena, and is available on the website of the Department of Civil Protection, together with the general rules of conduct to be followed in case of bad weather.

Information on regional alert levels, on specific critical issues that could concern individual territories and on the prevention actions adopted are managed by the territorial civil protection structures, in contact with which the Department will monitor the evolution of the situation.
