Everyone at the cinema under the sky of Villa Peripato

The summer season continues too film review organized, for several decades, by the tireless Elio Donatelliaccepted by‘Arena of the Villa Peripatoin via Pitagora, in Taranto.

The selection of films from the 2024 programme scheduled to be screened every week, from July to Septemberhas mainly affected the productions of the “Medusa movie”whose editorial line mainly favors Italian comedies, romantic films, comedy and action films.

A summer, therefore, in the name of lightheartedness and smiles, to give ourselves moments of carefreeness that are increasingly necessary in the historical moment we are living, shaken by winds of war, growing emotional instability and widespread aggression.

Cinema, therefore, as a sort of emotional therapy which projects spectators into a space-time reality that allows them to experience and express their emotions. But also cinema as “escape” in the authentic meaning of the term “escape”, or “escape from the place where one is closed”. A place that can be physical, but also metaphorical, such as a particular moral or spiritual condition of discomfort and suffering.

Associated with the arts, and with the “seventh art” in particular, escape is thus loaded with positive connotations, taking on the meaning of an opportunity to momentarily elude social, political, environmental problems and, instead, favor contents, plots and situations in which they prevail fantasy, feeling, adventure.

And why, as he ruled Ingmar Bergman “There is no art form like cinema to strike the conscience, shake the emotions and reach the secret chambers of the soul.”
