ANCONA Towards the G7 Salute, the city grappling with the restyling of its roads. The first intervention in the center is the one on via Marconi. «We are trying to bring order and guarantee better usability of one of the main axes of urban roads» assures the councilor for Public Works, Stefano Tomboli. Lot 1, therefore, already contracted, will be completed around the end of June for a total duration of two months. Cost of the operation: 728 thousand euros, included in the 2 million euros provided by the Region for all the redevelopment works scheduled for the G7.

The intervention

The most obvious revolution, announced some time ago by the Silvetti council, will be the cancellation of the temporary cycle path (where box parking will be built) and the cancellation of the construction of the red ribbon on the Archi side. In its place, therefore towards the centre, a preferential bus lane will be created from Largo Borgo Pio to the San Martino tunnel with a distance of approximately 80 centimeters from the Archi pavement. Furthermore, the obligation to turn right from Largo Borgo Pio onto Via Marconi and the ban on turning left from Largo Borgo Pio onto Via Marconi-stazione will be established. While the ban on turning left from via Marchetti onto via Marconi will be confirmed, highlighted by a central traffic island. «All of this will serve to improve traffic regulation in order to facilitate traffic flows in both directions and reduce road-level interference for greater traffic flow» underlines Tombolini.

The security

The road will also change its appearance from the point of view of signs and elements to protect pedestrian safety. Therefore new lifeguard islands will be created and some attachment points with the sidewalk will be modified. If the objective is to “bring order along the street”, as stated by councilor Tombolini, then brand new video surveillance cameras could not be missing to avoid wild parking on the Archi side. The model is the one already used by the Municipality in other parts of the city: OCR (Optical Character Recognition) «i.e. for reading license plates» specifies the councilor. Thus, with the new bionic eyes focused on the road, the phenomenon of prohibited parking on the bus lane would be definitively put to an end.

The other lots

In the meantime, the Municipality is also starting to plan the second lot of maintenance works which affect part of via XXIX Settembre, via Rupi, part of the Vanvitelli seafront and the upper part of via Conca for a total value of 404 thousand euros. Finally, lot 3, which has already started, concerns Portonovo for a financial commitment of 398 thousand euros. The works are taking place at night, as required by the Conero Park authorization. During the weekend, operations to improve the scenery of the bay will not be carried out and will continue until June 11th.
