“Enough slander, publicly asking for financial help for the electoral campaign is not a scandal”

Manfredonia.. “I regret intervening, taking away time and space from my electoral campaign focused on listening to and being close to citizens, to respond to provocative accusations and attempts at targeted disinformation. Someone, guiltily, is spreading the news that you have to pay to listen to or meet me. False and terribly slanderous news. For over a month, since I chose to apply, I have been meeting entrepreneurs, associative, cultural, sporting realities and simple citizens. Large meetings, street demonstrations, meetings with my committee, inaugurations of committees, but also tours of the neighborhoods, small close encounters with ten, twenty people.

I have never shied away, because I firmly believe in the value of meeting and listening, two cornerstones of this electoral campaign of mine. Also this week, the last that separates us from the vote, two public events are scheduled (tomorrow the one with Elly Schlein and the closing of the campaign) and numerous smaller events in contact with the city.

Well, to shock me, not finding anything more sensational, someone is exploiting a spontaneous initiative organized by a group of supporters and citizens which was used to help my fundraising campaign. The initiative, completely spontaneous and self-managed, included an aperitif in a bar in the city and part of the requested fee to support my activities.

Considering that I find nothing scandalous in such a meeting, which often takes place in other contexts and also in electoral campaigns at a national and international level, I find it unacceptable to pass on the idea that you have to pay to listen to me. I will have had more than a hundred meetings in a month (obviously all free and free), therefore those who write (and those who publish) certain messages are in bad faith.

Lawfully and publicly asking for financial help to support the electoral campaign is not a scandal or a scam, but a sign of correctness and humility. Forgive me if I don’t have personal capital ready to be used to pay for an electoral campaign, or public support from friends, companies and entrepreneurs. My electoral campaign was supported by many citizens and by my coalition.

Trying to dirty this correctness and my commitment in all these days is evidence of low politics which I hope will stop as soon as possible. Slander and bad information are not good not for me as a person, but for the city.”

Domenico La Marca, candidate for mayor of the centre-left coalition, says this in a note.
