The former coach Corrado Orrico spoke to the microphones of Radio FirenzeViola during the program “I Conti delle 7”. These are his words on the Italian’s three-year stint in Viola: “For me it’s positive, the numbers say so. Having left Fiorentina for Bologna in my opinion isn’t a big deal. Replacing Thiago Motta who did very well will be tough. Fiorentina was a small backyard that had cultivated well. The club always had the wrong center forward, and that’s what the Italian team was missing. I think the coach himself also had some problems in managing. He favored attacking play by bringing in a lot of men from behind to front, but then he discovered himself and took counterattacks.”
On the final in Athens: “Olympiacos wasn’t a great team. In the final the tension is extreme, and if you lack quality the defects emerge. The Viola never had a shot on goal. They had a pinch of unconscious prudence, they don’t have great faults. Fiorentina played like Fiorentina. I have great sympathy for Italiano, he could have continued in viola, I’m sorry that he’s leaving. For me, it was enough for them to find a center forward.”
What changes with Palladino? “Perhaps a bit of tactical and technical diplomacy. And a bit of southern ardor will be missing. Palladino doesn’t demonstrate it but he has great ability, he has a bit less offensive exuberance but a bit more organisation. Monza was a more balanced team than Fiorentina, Italiano would do well in England”.
