Final preparations before the Tour, tonight the parking lot of Viale Malta becomes a village

Piacenza dresses in yellow on the last night before the historic stage of the Tour de France. The first service vehicles have arrived in the car parks of Viale Malta – where the Tour village will be built between tonight and tonight – of Cheope and Via Gorra. We expect the arrival of the advertising caravan and staff vehicles in the evening which will color the city yellow. The areas dedicated to the Tour for one day “leave” the control of Piacenza and become to all intents and purposes French territory, with all services managed by the Grande Boucle organisation. Meanwhile, signs have already appeared in the city, strictly in French, indicating the different areas serving the event.

The passage through the city is scheduled for tomorrow, July 1st, at 11.15, preceded two hours before by the departure of the advertising caravan. The tour of the historic center will last just eight minutes, it is estimated that to reach Rottofreno the runners will take twenty minutes. The departure is from the parking lot of Viale Malta, the cyclists will pass through Via Venturini, Stradone Farnese, Via Giordani, Piazza Sant’Antonino, Via Sant’Antonino, Largo Battisti, Piazza Cavalli, Via XX Settembre, Piazza Duomo, Via Romagnosi, Via Cavour, Viale Risorgimento, Piazzale Milano, Via XXI Aprile, Piazzale Torino and Via Emilia Pavese. Kilometer zero is located on the SS10, that is, the actual starting point of the third stage (11.35) that will arrive in Turin in the afternoon.

“From an organizational point of view it was a huge job – the mayor commented Katia Tarasconi before the last organizational meeting with the Tour staff – yesterday (Saturday 29th June, ed.) there were very few removals because our fellow citizens proved to be extremely collaborative. It must be said that the effort from the information point of view was important, through leaflets, voice-overs, the press, text messages and phone calls to landlines”.

START AT 11.15 FROM VIALE MALTA – The start from the Emilian city is scheduled for 11.15 am from Viale Malta (while the advertising caravan is scheduled to start two hours earlier). The cyclists will cross the city center and then travel along the Via Emilia and continue towards Brake breaker, Sarmatian e Castle of St. John. After 20 km they will leave the region to head towards the finish line in Turin. A significant route that includes the passage through Tortona in homage to Fausto Coppi, to whom the stage is dedicated, and which borrows some of the roads of the Milan-Sanremo: 231 km, entirely on flat terrain, for a stage entirely for sprinters. And to pay a worthy welcome to the Tour champions, in Piacenza until July 1st Piazza Cavalli will be colored yellow with Palazzo Gotico illuminated by videomapping dedicated to the Piacenza stage. Among the initiatives carried out was also the copy of the Eiffel Tower made of bread in the typical shape of the Piacenza braid, in front of the Town Hall.

PROGRAM FOR MONDAY 1ST JULY – The caravan will move from Bologna to Piacenza on the evening of Sunday, June 30. From Piacenza, the cyclists will leave on Monday morning, July 1, for the third stage towards Turin, passing through San Nicolò, Rottofreno, Sarmato and Castel San Giovanni in the Piacenza area. Before the actual departure, scheduled for 11:35, there will be a fictitious departure at 11:15, that is, the “catwalk” in the historic center of the city, which will start from the parking lot on Viale Malta and then pass through Via Venturini, Stradone Farnese, Via Giordani, Piazza Sant’Antonino, Via Sant’Antonino, Largo Battisti, Piazza Cavalli, Via XX Settembre, Piazza Duomo, Via Romagnosi, Via Cavour, Viale Risorgimento, Piazzale Milano and Via XXI Aprile. The kilometer zero from which the departure for Turin will be made has been placed on Via Emilia Pavese. Two hours before the departure of the cyclists, the departure of the advertising caravan is scheduled.

BEFORE DEPARTURE – The Tour village, set up in the Viale Malta car park, will open at 8.15am. At 8.25am the presentation of the eight Continental Cadets-Juniors is scheduled, followed by the presentation of the eight winners of the Dictée du Tour with the municipal councilors Mario Dadati and Simone Fornasari. Between 8.45 and 8.55 the mayor Katia Tarasconi will kick off the morning, alongside her the president of the Emilia-Romagna Region Stefano Bonaccini and the general director of the Tour de France Christian Prudhomme. The advertising caravan will leave at 9.15am. At 9.40 the opening stage show of the “sports” period will take place on the podium by the artistic company “La Clique du Tour”. At 9.45 on the smaller podium there will be an exchange of gifts and pennants with Tarasconi, Bonaccini and Prudhomme. At 9.55, before the presentation of the riders, “LCL Caschi” operation. From 10.05am presentation and parade of runners. The cyclists will start at 11.15 from Viale Malta, twenty minutes before the authorities will be on the starting line. Mayor Katia Tarasconi will give the “go-ahead” with the flag. The sports councilor Mario Dadati will follow the Piacenza-Turin stage in the red car together with the general director of the Tour Christian Prudhomme. There are two entrances to the village: one from via Palmerio and the other from viale Malta.
