Maria Rosaria Omaggio died today in Rome. Born in Naples, but resident in the Capital for years, he was 67 years old. Behind him 50 theater pieces, 29 films, 18 television dramas. His debut on the big screen was with ”Roma a mano armata” by Umberto Lenzi, for the film ”Walesa – Man of Hope’ by Andrzej Wajda she also played Oriana Fallaci and won an award in Venice. On television she is remembered for her performance in La Squadra, Don Matteo 5 and Donne di Mafia.
In the theatre she has interpreted, among many works, ‘La schiava d’Oriente’ by Carlo Goldoni, Sotto banco by Domenico Starnone, Chiamalavita by Italo Calvino with Grazia Di Michele and she played the role of Eleonora Duse in Sensi d’Annunzio.
The general public met her on Rai with Canzonissima. She posed on the covers of Playboy and Playmen. Writer, Goodwill ambassador for children of the United Nations, instructor of taiji quan, a Chinese martial art. She had had a husband and three important companions, but no children.
Creative and eclectic, she has won numerous awards for her work as a writer. She has published for both Corbaccio Longanesi and Baldini e Castaldi. She received the Cattabiani prize for ‘The language of jewels – The hidden and rediscovered meaning of the eternal art of ornament from A to Z’; the Fregene prize with the Journey into the Incredible and the Chiantino prize 1999 for ‘The stories of Once upon a time, there is always and there will be again’, for Corbaccio-Longanesi.
