The agents of the Rome District Anti-Mafia Directorate are intervening in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 3 July 2024, in Aprilia where precautionary measures have been taken against 25 people, some of whom are seriously suspected of being part of a deep-rooted mafia association in the town in the province of Latina aimed at the commission of extortion, usury, crimes against public administration and drug trafficking.
The investigations started in 2018
The 25 people who were reached by the precautionary measures this morning have multiple accusations. In the investigations carried out, starting in 2018, by the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate – Operations Centre of Rome with the support, since October of the same year, of the Carabinieri Territorial Department of Aprilia, with the coordination of the DDA of the Rome Prosecutor’s Office, elements have emerged that attest to the existence of a mafia association operating in Aprilia and neighbouring municipalities “making use of the force of intimidation of the associative bond and of the condition of subjection and silence which derives from it”, the note reads.
The accusations
The criminal association, of mafia type, according to what has been reconstructed, carried out numerous illicit activities in the territory. From the trafficking of narcotic substanceof aggravated extortion, robbery, injuries and threats to establish themselves on the territory and obtain the sustenance of affiliates detained at theusury and abusive exercise of financial activity against merchants and entrepreneurs of the town of Aprilia for large sums of money and with the imposition of usurious rates.

The criminal group is also accused of possession and carrying of weapons to control the territory and reaffirm the superiority of the association and to have acquired directly and indirectly the management and in any case the control of economic activities, public procurement and services, to hinder the free exercise of the vote.
The agents’ blitz
On site, by order of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Rome, the operation of the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate and the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Latina is still underway to execute the order of the GIP of the Court of Rome at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rome – District Anti-Mafia Directorate, which orders the precautionary measures. Others are also underway investigations and searches against the 25 suspects.
