Asti, new unified market and commuter passes: the minority asks for clarifications

With the introduction of the new unified market in Piazza del Palio, how will parking passes work on market days?

The minority councilors Mario Malandrone, Vittoria Briccarello, Mauro Bosia, Gianfranco Miroglio are asking for this, acting as spokespersons for numerous citizens and commuters.

In a municipal question they explain the problem. “With the introduction of the blue stalls in Piazza del Palio and Corso Einaudi, the Municipality of Asti has established new annual passes for parking in these areas, which until recently were completely free. However, some problems and doubts arise regarding the management of these season tickets, especially considering that on market days, Wednesdays and Saturdays, these season tickets will be unusable. The square, in fact, will be almost completely unusable on those days, and the few places available in the neighboring street will probably be insufficient compared to the number of season tickets issued”.

Faced with this situation, the minority calls for clarity. On market days, will the season ticket for the blue parking spaces in Piazza del Palio and Corso Einaudi also be valid in other parking areas, such as the corona zone of Piazza Alfieri?; If so, on market days, will season ticket holders from the blue stalls be able to park in Piazza Alfieri together with those paying the highest rate? In other words, will it be possible for those who pay the blue parking fee to park next to those who pay a different fee, without incurring penalties? What is the Municipality’s plan to manage the possible lack of available seats in the neighboring street and in the square compared to the number of season tickets issued, especially on market days?”

Finally, the councilors ask themselves whether there are compensatory measures foreseen for season ticket holders who find themselves without available seats on market days? For example, a possible reduction in the cost of the season ticket or the allocation of alternative seats.
