VITERBO – TheTourism Councilor, Silvio Francothrough a note clarifies the tourist office topic and its future assignment. Below are the councilor’s words:
At the expiry of the Tourist Office’s assignment to society PromoTuscia in June 2023 it was evaluated with the then Manager in charge possibility of making a new tender notice lasting 3-5 years.
This hypothesis was discarded for two reasons. The first was linked to destination of ERDF funds, a part of which was allocated to the construction of the new Visitor Center, which will also house the Tourist Office, and a tourist checkpoint and the contextual destination of the Biodiversity Island Shelter. There second is to be found in the will of the Administration to evaluate the possibility of bringing the tourist office in houseas it represents a strategic asset for the development of tourism.
In this “transition” period, inwaiting to build the new headquarters and evaluate the possibility of entrusting its management in houseor alternatively issue a new tender, we operated first with an extension to the PromoTuscia company until January 2024 and then with an direct assignment always to PromoTuscia until June 2024.
To cover the period from July 2024 until the end of 2025, date of presumable relocation of the Office, it was decided with the Manager in charge to provide a direct assignment while maintaining the previous specifications substantially unchanged, both in terms of tasks entrusted and the amount expected. Given the impossibility dictated by the procurement code of assign the task again to PromoTuscia, in compliance with the rotation principlethe offices are proceeding, following the legal procedures, to identify a new custodian who has the skills required to welcome tourists in a year, such as the Jubilee one, in which it will be necessary to maximize the services and, at the same time time, adequately promote Viterbo’s candidacy as European Capital of Culture.
