Sibaritide increasingly isolated: cancellation of the Cosenza-Mandatoriccio route and failure to connect with Crotone Airport

CORIGLIANO-ROSSANO – «The transport situation in Sibaritide is worsening, already penalized by infrastructure gaps and institutional inattention. The vast area of the Cosenza Ionian Sea appears even more isolated, especially in light of the imminent start of the summer season and the consequent cancellation for the month of July of the 002007 Cosenza – Mandatoriccio line entrusted to the Romano Autolinee Regionali Spa company”.

Regional councilor Davide Tavernise (M5s) writes this in a press note, continuing as follows: «To this it must be added that at the moment, and contrary to what had been promised in unsuspecting times by the Occhiuto executive, there is no connection of the Ionian strip of the province of Cosenza with the Sant’Anna airport of Crotone, the third airport in Calabria, suited to serving, due to its location, not only the province of Crotone and Catanzaro, but also the Sibaritide and the upper Ionian Cosenza. In fact, there is no integrated proximity mobility system, by rail or road, which allows the Pythagorean airport to be connected easily and in a reasonable and certain time to the territories north of Crotone which could potentially benefit from the flights offered”.

«In this regard – he adds – I forwarded a specific question to the President of the Regional Council, Roberto Occhiuto, to find out if and how he intends to take any useful and necessary initiative in order to guarantee the Calabrians, in particular those of the Sibaritide, a right to mobility mortified by the infrastructural gap and ancestral inefficiencies, ensuring the continuity of the service relating to the 002007 Cosenza – Mandatoriccio line entrusted to the Romano Autolinee Regionali Spa company and implementing rail and road transport between the Sant’Anna airport of Crotone and the Ionian area of the Province of Cosenza”.

«With regards to transport, it is worth remembering that to date it does not appear that the Calabria Region has prepared a revision of the 2019/2021 Multi-Annual Program of the TPL, with the related full implementation of LR 35/2015, or the European tender for the assignment of the local public transport service. To all this it must be added that local public transport, in Calabria and particularly in the Sibaritide territories, takes on a particular value, in light of the chronic deficiencies in mobility services for citizens, especially in the internal and most disadvantaged areas and in the Ionian belt of the region” he concludes.
