“Italy in Frame”, the national project created by COREPLA to celebrate Italian beauties and raise citizens’ awareness of good practices related to plastic recycling, continues its journey around Italy. After the Messina stage in 2023, the Consortium once again involves Sicily in the project, reaching the splendid towns of Ragusa and Scicli.

“Sicily is an island rich in natural and artistic beauties that deserve to be framed. This invaluable heritage must be enhanced and protected by promoting, thanks also to the work of the Consortium, virtuous activities capable of fostering a greater culture of recycling in citizens and tourists who visit or live in these splendid places. Plastic is a precious resource that, if correctly collected and recycled, can constantly be reborn by itself and transform itself into new objects and make the citizen’s effort concrete” – declares Giovanni Cassuti, president of COREPLA which continues: – “the province of Ragusa, to which I am deeply attached, in the last year recorded 27 kg of plastic per capita, a good result considering the national average of 25 kg. Now it is necessary not to lower our guard but to aim for new and ambitious goals, certain that only by working in synergy with the territory is it possible to give life to a real circular economy”.

In the presence of the mayor of Ragusa Giuseppe Cassì, the councilor for the environment Mario D’Asta and Giuseppe Ciraolo, COREPLA institutional relations manager, it was inaugurated on Wednesday 26 June in Piazza San Giovanni in Ragusa the street furniture of Italia in Cornice, completely made of recycled plastic and composed of a frame and two panels containing QArt Codes created by the artist Ale Giorgini. By framing the QR Codes on the panels, citizens and tourists will be able to quickly and easily obtain all the information on what, how and when to correctly dispose of plastic packaging in urban waste sorting. The frame and panels will be moved in the afternoon in Marina di Ragusa in Torre squareamong the main seaside tourism destinations in Sicily.

After the presentation of the framework in Ragusa, a second one will be inaugurated on June 26th. frame in Scicli, at 7:00 pm at the splendid via Francesco Mormina Penna, a symbolic place of the city. The mayor of Scicli Mario Marino will participate in the presentation.

Italy in the Frame is only the first of the projects that will involve the two Municipalities, In fact, on the evenings of June 28, 29 and 30, on the Marina di Ragusa seafront and in the centre of Scicli, COREPLA will carry out an awareness-raising activity for citizens and touristsaimed at providing all the information on the separate collection of plastic packaging with the distribution of information material and gadgets. In the autumn, new projects related to schools will be activated.
