Brindisi in protest: flags of peace against the G7 – Pugliapress

On June 13, on the occasion of the opening dinner of the G7, scheduled for the Svevo castle, citizens of the red zone are invited to display peace flags, white flags or white sheets on their balconies. This symbolic gesture aims to send a strong message to the summit participants, to reiterate that Brindisi is a city of peace and not of war.

“No G7” emphasizes that the summit will only talk about conflicts, weapons and attack strategies, including how to deal with Russia and predictions of a third world war. For this reason, the invitation to display flags of peace takes on a particularly relevant meaning: to express dissent against any belligerent speech.

The coordination also criticized the decision to display a blow-up depicting the raiders of the San Marco Battalion in war action on the Navy warehouses. This image, defined as contrary to the Constitution, was deemed a shameful insult to be covered up immediately. “No G7” has already warned the Ministry of Defence, asking for the immediate removal of this representation.

The deputy mayor of Brindisi, Massimiliano Oggiano, responded with a post on Facebook, making fun of the situation: “What should the Navy have put rainbow flags on the sheds of a military ship base home to the San Marco Brigade? Military men with flowers in their rifles? Who has to defend the national borders, the young marmots?”

No G7 in Brindisi: display flags of peace is a call to action for all citizens who wish to see their city associated with values of peace and not war. The hope is that the message launched on June 13 will resonate loud and clear, demonstrating that Brindisi rejects any association with conflict and violence.
